Intensive driving courses shorten the time taken to learn to drive. Everything is learnt in just days.
By comparison, hourly lessons on weekly tuition takes an average 14 months for a student to reach driving test standard.
All inclusive courses are where the driving school will fold everything together into one price to give the impression of a good deal.
The price you see may look like a great deal, but with some driving schools the details of courses are unclear and vague on what you are getting.
With some driving schools it will be hard to know what you are paying for, or will receive. Before booking this course type be sure to ask for answers to these 5 questions
1. What is the rate per hour you are paying for the driving instructor.
2. If accommodation is included how much is the tarrif per night for that accommodation
3. Is the driving test fee included within that price
4. How many hours HANDS ON WHEEL tuition will I receive each day.
5. If shared tuition and another student is not found to pair with me will I receive all the hours to myself
ONLY BOOK the course if you are happy with the answers you receive
Driving test passes for intensive courses are consistently above 70%. By comparison the national pass rate for all driving tests taken is currently 43%.
Guaranteed Pass, Guarantee Bond, or Pass Guarantee are marketing words and tactics used to entice you to book with that driving school. Their Guarantee at best, is a few hours of free tuition if you retake your driving test with them, not that you will pass your driving test
Although the taking of both tests in the same week in theory is possible there is a high element of risk.
Driving schools offering these courses are asking that YOU take a Risk and a Gamble.
1. The Risk; That you might fail your theory test while on your course.
2. The Gamble; If you pass the theory you gamble on a driving test being found at short notice.
Theory & Driving Test in one week type of course, what you should know
1. If you fail the theory test you will not be taking a driving test with the course because driving tests can not be booked until the theory test has been passed.
2. No driving school can hold driving tests on file waiting for someone to take them, they have to go as
the public do, to the DSA to make the booking. Driving schools who offer this course type know
test centres will be fully booked some weeks ahead and look for cancelled tests any were
in their region.
3. If you are lucky and they get a cancellation test then be prepared for the driving test being 80 miles or more away from where you learnt to drive, with you only
going there to take the driving test having never driven there before.
What if they can't aquire a driving test
THEN YOU WON'T BE TAKING A DRIVING TEST. The driving school will then rely on the get out clause in their Terms and Conditions, which they will tell you that you should have read.
Typical Terms and Conditions of driving schools who offer these types of courses
1. In the unlikely event of a practical test not being available by the DSA The Driving School
will book an appointment for you at a reasonable time period. The Driving School cannot be held
responsible for the availability or cancellation of tests by the DSA.
Any claims for compensation for cancellations should be made direct to the DSA.
2. No guarantee can be made of DSA test date availability. If in the unlikely event that a test cannot be
booked during the duration of the course, a test will be booked for the pupil at a centre of their choice.
3. No guarantee can be made of test availability, in the event that a test cannot be booked on the course,
then an alternative test will be offered at a date and time agreeable to the pupil, instructor and School.
No refunds of monies are applicable in this case.
On average up to 20% of the weekly lesson is spent on recapping the previous lesson. Further time is spent on travelling between the lesson starting places and training areas. With intensive courses the need for recapping is almost eliminated, and travelling time is kept to a minimum which will mean more tuition in less hours.
Shared tuition is where up to 3 students are trained together. This type of course gives best results if the students are of similar ability, friends and can work together as a team. Students who are strangers, at different standards in their driving often do not gel and training suffers.
One 2 One courses are where a student is placed an instructor and tuition is taken an an individual basis.
Most students prefer a One 2 One tuition ratio, rather than shared tuition with another student.
Providing your theory test has been passed your driving test will be in the course final hour. Date, time and place of your driving test will be shown in your course confirmation letter.
Not all driving schools include test fee's as part of their price. Learning2drive courses include a weekday practical driving test fee with the course price.
Driving Tests are normally conducted Monday to Friday and at certain times during the day.
Some test centres offer Saturday tests and in the summer sometimes evening tests.
It is important that you have some knowledge of roads in the area where you will be taking your test
Driving tests are always taken in the same Town and area as your main training took place.
To become Qualified a driving instructor will have passed 3 exams. Trainee driving instructors will have passed the first 2, and will be under supervision by a qualified instructor.
Trainee instructors can teach for money while practicing and gaining their instruction abilities.
Only fully qualified instructors work for A Team, we have no trainee instructors.
You are required to show all relevant documents to the examiner for your driving test to take place. If you are missing any parts, tell your driving instructor straight away and he should be able to help.
We are told by the Driving Standards Agencey that "If the
candidate is presented for the driving test at test standard
there is no reason for them not to obtain a pass". They
also inform us there is no PASS RATE but there is a NORM
on the amount of passes for each driving test centre. We
leave it for you to decide what this means
